The album contains twelve tracks which include Ney’s original compositions “Sana,” “Shut Up,” and “Sama Sama,” plus two bonus tracks, “Kaya Mo” (the theme song to the animated movie RPG Metanoia) and “Walang Hanggan” (a duet with Yeng Constantino used as the love theme in the teleserye Imortal).

During the press launch of his album last May 12, Ney dispelled rumors that he left 6CycleMind out of spite. He said that the members of the band were very supportive of his decision to record a solo album. “Ang gandang promotion sana na sasabihin ko nag-away kami, nagsuntukan kami. Pero kasi wala talaga. Malinis ang nangyari. Bahala na siguro mag-isip ‘yung mga tao pero ang totoo okay kaming lahat.

6CycleMind is behind the well-loved original songs like “Biglaan,” “Sige Na,” “Sandalan,” and together the band was able to release five albums under Sony Music. With Ney’s decision to go solo, drummer Tutti Caringal has taken over as 6CycleMind’s lead vocalist (Tutti is best known as Yeng Constantino’s co-host on Music Uplate Live).

Ney revealed that he and his former bandmates are still friends up to now. “The band is now doing their thing while my focus right now is my solo album. Tutti is now the frontman, he’s the drummer. Okay kaming lahat. Paminsan minsan nagkikita pa kami, nagkakainuman. Nagkasama kami sa isang show sa Dubai recently and I jammed with them. Ganun kami ka-close hanggang ngayon. We’re still under the same management so walang problema.”

The reason he decided to pursue a solo career is to achieve “artistic freedom.” “Siyempre kapag nasa banda ka, kahit composition mo, kailangan involved pa rin ‘yung lahat. First time ko itong magka-album na lahat ng songs e composed ko, arranged, and produced [ko]. Even ‘yung idea sa layout ng album kasali ako. Baby ang turing ko sa album na ito.”

With the continuous problem in piracy, most recording labels have reserved album contracts exclusively to artists to have the power to sell CDs. Does Ney believe he now has what it takes to sell an album without 6CycleMind? He answered, “Malalaman na lang natin sa mga susunod na araw. Hindi ko pa masasabi ngayon ‘yan. Let’s just wait and see. Hindi ko na inisip ‘yun. Ayokong magpasok ng negative ideas while I was making this album. Lahat ng inisip ko puro positive.”

Ney’s self-titled solo album is now available in record bars nationwide. Listeners may also preview the tracks or purchase a digital copy at www.starrecords.ph
