Alessandra de Rossi says nothing has changed about being selective of her roles after attending Cannes Film Festival.
Alessandra de Rossi flew to France recently to attend the 64th Cannes Film Festival in France to represent her latest independent film Busong (Palawan Fate) together with the movie’s director Aureus Solito. Direk Aureus also directed the acclaimed indie film, Ang Pagdadalaga ni Maximo Oliveros in 2005.
“Iba. Lalo na kung pupunta ka, ‘di ba?
” said Alessandra about the chance to walk the red carpet at Cannes. “Hindi ako
prepared pero sabi ko nga kay Direk kahit anong pagdaanan natin, kailangan kong makarating do’n
.” The actress revealed that she had joked that the movie could be their ticket to the prestigious film festival, not expecting that it would come true. “Pinaalala lang sa akin ni Direk. Nung nag
-shooting kami may
time na nagbiro ako, ‘Malay mo makarating tayo ng
Cannes.’ ‘Di siya
Aureus) umimik. Hindi ko na maalala ‘yon, kasi nga
joke lang naman siya, ‘di ba?”Busong
is included in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight category, which consists of movies for exhibition and not for competition. Busong is an environmental movie that tackles about karma. “It’s Palawan concept of instant karma. ‘Pag may ginagawa ka sa
nature, babalik sa ‘yo kaagad
. If you hurt nature it comes back at you right away,” explained Direk Aureus.
With the film’s recognition, Alessandra was asked if this would prompt her to be picky of her roles from now on. She replied, “Ever since choosy talaga ako sa
role. May pera man ako o wala,
choosy pa rin ako. Ganun ako, eh. Hindi ako nagpapakain sa sistema o sa pangarap
, so ‘yon swerte ako
She continued that she almost failed to get the role because of the initial shooting schedule. “Kasi si direk
excited. Tinawagan ako
December 27 (2010) tapos gustong mag
December 31 at
January 1.” Alessandra had to refuse at first due to prior plans to have a vacation. She was grateful that her director agreed to postpone their shooting for a few days. “Nag
-adjust din kasi gusto ko rin naman talagang gawin.
Alessandra and Direk Aureus also agreed that they have a certain connection as co-workers. “Feeling ko naman
it was meant to be kasi nga sa isang
interview [sinabi ko
] para siya ‘yung
soul mate ko sa
movie. Iba ‘yung
connection,” Alessandra said.
The director echoed the actress’s sentiment that they are “soul mates.” “Parang kaming may
psychic link, uncanny. Sasabihin ko lang ang
few words [what I want in the scene] she gets it precisely.”
Direk Aureus added that Alessandra was his first choice for the part. “I want a morena
actress and na-
realize ko ang
amazing actresses natin
are all tisay and all chinita. Para tayong
Spanish-era pa rin.
Alessandra is the ideal morena
actress,” he said.
