042011-aj_main.jpgAntonello Joseph Sarte Perez or just AJ was just twelve years old when ABS-CBN discovered him because of a chocolate drink TV commercial. AJ underwent a series of workshops under the Star Magic management, and was later launched as part of the Star Circle Batch 13 together with Dino Imperial, Felix Roco, Empress, and Lauren Young who would later become his ka-love team in succeeding projects. AJ and Lauren were paired in the weekly teen oriented series Abt Ur Luv, and in the 2008 primetime teleserye Lobo top-billed by Angel Locsin and Piolo Pascual.

Playing gay in ‘Your Song presents Underage
In 2009, AJ was again paired with Lauren in the weekly mini series Your Song presents Underage which also included Melissa Ricks and Empress. Just 16 years old at the time, he took a risk by agreeing to do a gay role. AJ admitted that at first he had fears about the role, but he later saw an opportunity for growth as an actor. “‘Yun ‘yung danger kapag nagampanan ko nang maganda ‘yung character ko. Baka isipin ng mga tao bakla talaga ako (laughs). Baka rin ma-typecast ako to do more gay roles. Pero para sa akin I just want to be professional sa role ko. I just want to do my job well. Hindi ako natatakot kasi trabaho lang naman. Siguro may mga tao talagang mag-iisip ng iba pero kilala ko naman ang sarili ko. I’m just doing a role.”

With the Giggerboys in ‘Your Song presents Boystown
AJ was handpicked by Star Magic together with other rising young male stars to form the dance group called Giggerboys, which also included Enchong Dee, Robi Domingo, Sam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, Dino Imperial, Chris Gutierrez, and now latest addition Enrique Gil. Every Sunday on ASAP these boys would make girls swoon with their dance numbers. They also starred together in Your Song presents Boystown with leading lady Jessy Mendiola.

In his last interview with ABS-CBN News, AJ admitted feeling a bit sad that the Giggerboys are rarely complete nowadays because of their respective busy schedules. “Buo pa rin ang Giggerboys. ‘Yun nga, it just so happens na paminsan na lang kaming sumasayaw together as a whole group. Iba-iba ang schedule. Walang time for rehearsal. Kapag may ASAP ang isa, yung isa may out-of-town shows, may taping. Pero hindi pa rin naman nawawala ang Giggerboys, buo pa rin."

Launched to leading man status in Sabel
In 2010, AJ finally got what every male star in showbiz aspires for, that is to be launched to leading man status. He and newcomer Joseph Marco were chosen to play leading men to Jessy who played the title role in the teleserye Sabel. AJ played a young man who struggled between his love for God and for Jessy’s character.

The theme of Sabel required the three stars to show some skin and do scenes which were a bit sexy. AJ talked about his kissing scenes with Jessy in Sabel. Sa totoong buhay, to be honest, I've had some relationships. I think normal lang naman yan sa isang teenager so may experience na din ako."

Maalalala Mo Kaya: AJ’s final acting role
Just last week AJ finished an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya which is scheduled to on April 30. In an interview with ABS-CBN News Dagupan during the Kapamilya Caravan show last April 16, he said, “’Yu
