Aiko Melendez will use work and losing weight as means to boost her self confidence.
Aiko Melendez had no hesitation when told that for the upcoming teleserye Atom
she will play wife to her real life ex-husband Jomari Yllana. Aiko explained that she and Jomari are good friends despite the end of their marriage in 2003. The actress said that she feels very comfortable making her comeback to acting opposite none other than a fellow actor she admires the most. “Jomari is a very good actor. Ang sarap ka eksena ang isang artistang alam mo na magaling at lalong lalo na kapag kumportable ka na sa kanya. Walang pagdadalawang isip
when I was told na si
Jom ang magiging asawa ko rito.”
Aiko began her career as a teen star during the 80s and became an acclaimed actress in the 90s with unforgettable dramatic performances on screen which include May Minamahal
(1993), Maalaala Mo Kaya: The Movie
(1994), Ika 11-Utos: Mahalin Mo, Asawa Mo
(1994), and Mula Noon Hanggang Ngayon
(1996). Her showbiz career however took the back seat when she decided to run for public office. She served as councilor of the second district of Quezon City for four years until 2008.
Now that production for Atom
is set to begin very soon, Aiko has realized how she had missed acting so much. She said that she is decided on losing weight so she won’t look too full-figured on screen. “Sobra kong na
acting. For so long my weight has been my problem. Naging
lax kasi akong mag
diet and mag
work out.
I can’t wait for the day na mag
taping na kami
She further revealed her current slimming program which she said is not only for her showbiz comeback but also as a treat to herself. “I’m under the program of Cathy Valencia and Sexy Chef. I do yoga everyday. Gusto kong maging
guys out there.
she commented with a laugh.
Aiko confessed that she feels very excited about her return to acting especially with the high ratings of her recent episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya
. “May fear kasi ako noon na sa tagal kong nawala sa
TV baka hindi na ako matanggap. Pero nung naging mataas ‘yung
MMK, and then I was offered with Atom, mas sobra akong na
excite na umarte uli.”
This doesn’t mean though that the 35-year-old actress has turned her back on politics. She said that public service will always be in her heart and she will continue doing it even if she is not an elected official. “Ang
politics ay naging parte ng buhay.
I would still want to do it but for now I want to focus muna
on my showbiz career which I left for nine years because I served sa
public office. Showbiz muna ako pansamantala. Sa dami kasi ng nangyari
last election parang mas gusto ko munang pagtuunan ng pansin
what’s there for myself.
