Piolo Pascual feels honored that Gabby Lopez wants him to be a Kapamilya forever

030411-piolo_main.jpgThe contract signing of Piolo Pascual for ABS-CBN proved to be a momentous occasion for the country’s ultimate heartthrob as all the network’s top executives graced the event including Eugenio “Gabby” Lopez III, Charo Santos-Concio, Malou Santos, Johnny Manahan, and Mariole Alberto.  And it seems that he even had a gentleman’s agreement with no less than Gabby Lopez (Chairman and CEO of ABS-CBN) himself that he would remain a kapamilya for life. This quickly dispelled persistent rumors that he’s about to transfer to another network. “Wala namang ganung negotiation. I’m a kapamilya through and through. Ever since I started in showbiz, I’ve been a kapamilya. Kanina nga sabi ni Tito Gabby, ‘Ayan, forever ha?’ Though it was said in a subtle way, parang tumatak siya. For a boss to say something like that, you feel really, not just important, but you feel secure. For me iba yung feeling na alam mong inaalagaan ka,” said Piolo in an interview with ABS-CBN media at the Rockwell Club yesterday, March 3.

Piolo didn’t deny the fact that the competition in the biz is getting tougher with the network’s pool of promising actors. But it only made him feel more blessed because ABS-CBN will still entrust him with more exciting projects for the next two years. “Hindi naman kaila sa atin na madaming nagsusulputan na bata at mas madaming trabaho. But the love and care I feel from ABS-CBN, hindi matatawaran. Kaya kanina, ang surreal ng pakiramdam na kasama ko lahat ng mga boss natin. Naisip ko, ‘Lord, ano ba nagawa ko bakit ako nandito?’ It’s really humbling kasi nagtratrabaho lang din naman ako dito. I love my work and I’m passionate about my craft. And to be given this blessing, I guess mabait ang Diyos sa akin.”

Avid fans of Piolo would be thrilled to know that he would remain visible on primetime TV while making movies and doing concert tours in between. “Madaming naka-line up. Of course hindi naman tayo mawawalan ng teleserye, parte yan ng kontrata. That’s one of the reasons kung bakit tayo pumpirma ng kontrata. That keeps you visible on TV for a couple of months. Siguro [gagawa ako ng] two or three soaps and then movies, integrated na e. For my ABS-CBN contract, it’s not just for TV but for film, recording, TFC, so ABS-CBN becomes me (laughs). Especially with TFC with cable and digital and all the other affiliates of ABS-CBN. It’s something that I’ve always wanted para alam mong you’re covered 360 degrees.”

Piolo leaves today, March 4, for his month-long tour across the States and Canada, and then he starts shooting a film in New York by April. “I’m doing six shows for three weekends. Pero ige-guest ko si Pokwang sa dalawang shows ko. But I’m doing shows sa mga hindi ko pa napuntahan before like Connecticut; Virginia; Tampa, Florida; Virginia Beach; and there’s also Portland, Oregon; and Toronto, Canada. I always look forward to performing for the Filipino communities abroad especially in the States kasi eto talaga yung mga solid kapamilya. It’s nice to be with them for a month. Then I’ll be in New York for the rest of April to shoot for a film. Then I get back during the summer.”
