Jessy Mendiola explains why she turned down Robi Domingo

031111-jessy_main.jpgPush.com.ph asked Jessy Mendiola during the farewell press conference of her teleserye Sabel if it’s true that TV host/actor Robi Domingo courted her two years ago when they were paired in Your Song presents Boystown. Jessy admitted that Robi did court her, but when asked if she turned him down, she smiled and said, “Oo, ha ha ha!

But Jessy quickly clarified that she didn’t directly tell Robi “no” but instead, they had a serious talk where they both realized that having a serious relationship wasn’t feasible at that time. “Well, hindi naman diretsahan na binasted ko. Parang hindi lang talaga nag-work out lahat. We were both young then. I was 16, he was, I think, 19. Ginagawa namin ‘yung Boystown. Since starting pa lang kami sa showbiz parang mas gusto naming mag-focus na lang sa work. He’s busy with school pa. Nagusap kami and we figured na hindi pa time. Siya na ‘yung nagsabi na kailangan niya i-prioritize ‘yung school.”

Jessy shared how Robi wooed her at that time. “He would give roses. Mahilig din siyang magbigay ng mga sweets. Hindi naman siya nakadalaw sa bahay namin but he met my mom. We also watched movies together. ‘Yun lang naman.” The quality that she liked the most about him was, “He’s very funny, witty.”

She denied speculations that Robi felt bad about what happened and when taping for Boystown ended they began snubbing each other. “Hindi na rin kasi kami masyado nagkita after dahil natapos na nga ‘yung Boystown. Pero kapag nagkakasalubong naman kami dito sa ABS-CBN, we would say hi to each other. Pero hindi na nga kami nakapagkwentuhan because we’re both busy na. Walang ilangan or sama ng loob because it was a mutual decision na hindi na ituloy.”

If ever Robi would court her again, would Jessy say “yes” this time? She explained, “Mas lalong imposible ngayon kasi mas marami na akong ginagawa. Wala na akong oras, kahit para sa sarili ko. Siya naman busy na sa school.”

After the success of her launching drama Sabel, the 18-year-old actress shared that ABS-CBN already has another project planned for her, though she said she is not yet allowed to talk about it. Many viewers have praised Jessy for her acting in Sabel, and went on to say that she now deserves to join in the ranks of certified Kapamilya drama princesses Kim Chiu, Erich Gonzales, Maja Salvador, Andi Eigenmann, and Empress. But Jessy would rather leave the final judgment to the public. “Hindi po ako ang magsasabi niyan pero may mga naririnig na rin ako na nagsabing pwede na raw akong isabay sa kanila. Pero for me parang napakalaking responsibility nun. I just feel honored na maitulad sa kanila dahil napakagaling naman talaga nila lahat. Dati pinapanood ko lang sila. Ngayon pinapanood ko pa rin sila.”

Just like the aforementioned young actresses who were previously launched by ABS-CBN, Jessy also experienced being accused of rumors that fame had gotten to her and she had become a brat. “Ang napansin ko tuwing may ilo-launch na bagong actress, laging nai-issue na lumalaki na ang ulo niya. Bakit kay laging ganun? Nasabihan na ng ganyan si Erich, tapos si Andi, pati rin si Empress.”

But Jessy said she is not bothered by these rumors for as long as she knows herself and the people around her still continue to trust her. “Siguro madali lang para sa ibang tao ang mag-judge kasi hindi nila ako lubusang kilala. Siguro naninibago lang ang mga tao. Kami rin naman kasi naninibago sa bagong klase ng attention na nakukuha namin after kaming ma-launch. Kapag ilo-launch na kasi ang isang
