Alfred Vargas admits that he is still affected by his fathers death

Although the year started out on a somber note for Alfred and his family, the actor-politician says he is grateful to at least have been able to spend one last Christmas with his father, who succumbed to cardiac arrest last January 4. Alfred, who is set to play the role of Irvin, prince of the sea in the upcoming fantasy drama Mutya says how he felt after his dad'rsquo;s passing was unlike anything he had ever experienced before. "Definitely I still get sad when I think about it. Sabi ko nga sa iba, I'rsquo;ve done a hundred roles na merong death scenes sa ospital, iiyakan mo yung tatay mo o yung nanay mo. Pero pag sa sarili mo na pala nangyari, pag sa sariling ama mo na, iba pa rin yung feeling. So until now, apektado pa rin pero we have to move on and accept life as it is," he shares during the press conference for Mutya held last January 27 at the ABS-CBN compound.

Last December with his Fil-Italian girlfriend Yasmine Espiritu, who was in town for the holidays, Alfred chose to spend most of his time in the hospital to be with his father. "It was my last Christmas with my dad so I spent time with him. Kasi one month siya na-hospital so we made it a point na alagaan siya," he shares. With his father gone, Alfred says he is ready to take on one of the biggest roles of his life which is to be head of their family. He admits he had a hard time going back to work after his father died, but now he knows he has to be strong for his family. "Super nahirapan ako pero acting is like that. Pagka isa ka namang actor kailangan pag trabaho mo na, you should be able to control your emotions. In real life, that'rsquo;s reality. Siguro symbolically na-pass na yung torch sa akin as head of the family and I think I'rsquo;m ready and I think my parents have prepared me to be a good leader sa family and to be a good leader sa mga constituents ko," shares.

The 29-year-old actor, who was a newly-elected councilor for the second district of Quezon city last year says that he has found ways to cope with his family'rsquo;s loss. "I just work, work, work. I have several priorities now. Una yung public service tapos pangalawa yung showbiz. At saka may mga iba-ibang negosyo. So I'rsquo;m very busy rin," he says. 'nbsp;

Alfred shares that his relationship with the Fil-Italian beauty continues to be one of the strongest sources of support and inspiration for him. "Okay naman kami. She'rsquo;s very beautiful and very inspiring. She'rsquo;s very sweet. Ang naging vacation lang namin ay yung sa hospital with my dad," he admits. Alfred shares that he'rsquo;s all set for this coming Valentine'rsquo;s day. "I had something prepared. It'rsquo;s definitely going to be a surprise. Na-book ko na yung kailangan i-book and I prepared na for my Valentine. I just want to make sure na basta yung oras na yun para lang talaga kay Jasmine and hindi sa iba. Hindi ako pag-aari ng production, hindi ako pag-aari ng city government. Para lang talaga sa kanya ang mga oras na yun, he shares
