Derek Ramsay on being Box-Office King: 'I'm happy my movies are doing so well'

110811-derek_main.jpgDerek Ramsay is enjoying two blockbuster hits in a row, via No Other Woman and Praybeyt Benjamin, where he is part of the star-studded cast. This is also the reason that the sexy actor was all smiles at the premiere night of the comedy movie because the cinema was packed with people. Apparently, Praybeyt Benjamin is also giving No Other Woman—currently holding the title top-grossing local movie of all time—a run for its money because Vice Ganda’s movie has already hit the P200 million mark on its eighth day, just P20 million shy away from No Other Woman’s P220 million. Both movies are from Star Cinema and were shown in theaters a month after the other. No Other Woman opened in theaters on September 28, while Praybeyt Benjamin hit cinemas on October 26.

There are rumors that Derek is a strong contender for the Box-Office King title but the Fil-British actor said that he is simply grateful that his movies this year are certified hits. “I’m not thinking about that (Box-Office title). I’m just really happy that (they’re) doing so well. Kung mabigay ‘yon bonus but I’m not doing a project to be a Box-Office King. We work together as a team.” He further added than when doing movies, he does not concern himself about box-office titles. “I don’t think about that. Ako ‘pag gumagawa ng project I’m concentrating on that only, the pressure of it doing well or not, I throw that out of the window and I just do what I do to contribute to make a good movie.”

In No Other Woman, Derek said that he got worried that people might focus more on his love scenes with his leading ladies, Anne Curtis and Cristine Reyes because he did not want it to be the film’s selling point. He was not disappointed because many people who watched it raved about the film’s story. With Praybeyt Benjamin, Derek gamely complied to doing several topless scenes in the comedy movie, which he said he did not mind doing because he enjoyed shooting for the comedy movie.

He continued that it feels surreal to him that he continues to receive text messages saying there are still long lines of people who want to watch his latest movie. “I’m still on that high, ‘di pa rin ako makapaniwala na it’s doing so well,” he said.
