Derek Ramsay denies rift with Ai-Ai de las Alas

112211-derek-main.jpgDerek Ramsay clarified that while he failed to attend Ai-Ai de las Alas’s show last month—which was also a fundraiser for the Philippine Movie Press Club—it was with good reason. “Yes that’s true. I wasn’t able to attend an event for  PMPC. Ms. Ai-Ai had a concert. I was sick. I apologized. I heard about the write-ups and I gave my apology. I informed them on the day itself at 6:30 am in the morning. Yes I know that’s kind of last minute. Alam naman nila na kung kaya ko, pupuntahan ko talaga. May game pa nga kami ng United Football League that day also. Sinabi na ng coach that it was my first day that I was going to play. Alam niyo naman na kung hindi ako makabangon para sa sports ko, ibig sabihin may sakit talaga ako and hindi ako nakapunta sa game ko. I felt very bad na hindi ako nakapunta sa event nila so I understand where they’re coming from. They’re very disappointed in me and I just have to gain that trust back. Masama lang yung timing na nagkasakit ako,” he explained to

Although he understands where the PMPC is coming from, Derek couldn’t help but admit that he was also affected by the negative write-ups. “I’ve always said this: that everyone’s entitled to their own opinion. Did I get affected? A little bit because I treated them as friends. But again, my view of them has not changed. I respect them tremendously. It was my fault. I got sick,” he shared.

The Praybeyt Benjamin actor also said that there is no truth that his failure to appear in her show affected his friendship with Ai-Ai. “I went to Miss Ai-Ai’s birthday party the other day. She was wonderful. She was actually defending me. Thank you very much Miss Ai-Ai. I tweeted her. I sent her a couple of texts actually because I was really trying to get better para makapunta. I told them na magfo-phone patch na lang ako ng 1 am which we did para may mabigay din ako. She told me na, ‘No don’t say sorry to me. It’s completely okay. I understand. Sa PMPC ka mag-sorry.’ And I apologized naman to the PMPC and I think they accepted my apology. And they were kind enough to write the tweet that I sent out, which was nice of them. So I don’t think naman that they’re trying to write bad stuff about me purposely. They have their right to their opinion,” he explained.

At present, the 31-year-old Fil-Brit heartthrob knows that he’s still on the outs with some people but he has been nothing but sincere in making things better in the future, hoping they forgive him completely already. “See I don’t know eh. I’m hoping so. I gave my apology. I’m very sincere about my apology. I feel bad that I got sick but I consider myself very professional and I always attend to all my commitments. Even if I’m sick I’ll try to be there. But this time talaga I woke up with a temperature of nearly 40 and first thing I did was I called my friend who’s the president of the PMPC, si Ate Melba (Llanera), and told her I’m not feeling well, I’m going to keep you posted. At the same time, that evening Angel (Panganiban) had a party because the pamangkin was coming. There was a celebration. I couldn’t be a part of that. So a lot of things happened that day,” he said.
