Gerald Anderson looks forward to organizing more fundraising events next year

111711-gerald_main.jpgAfter the success of the his charity basketball tournament held last November 13 at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig, Gerald Anderson said he is looking forward to organizing similar fundraising events in the future and getting more celebrities involved in the process. The basketball tourney’s beneficiaries include the Cancer Warrior’s Foundation and Cottolengo Filipino, a non-profit, non-government organization for children with special needs.

The 22-year-old actor admitted he got the idea after the Star Magic team played against the ASAP Rocks team in an exhibition game as the culminating event for the Star Magic Games earlier this year. “Wala lang, naisip ko na mahilig kaming lahat sa basketball. Mahilig talaga ako sa basketball tapos yung mga bata sa foundation nila dinala ko sila dito para mag-enjoy dito,” he shared with Push.com.ph.

Much to the delight of over 100 children with special needs who watched the all-star game from their courtside seats, Gerald Anderson and his celebrity friends who gave time for the event also posed for photos and signed some autographs after the game. Some celebrities like Derek Ramsay, Vhong Navarro, Young JV, Robi Domingo, Jhong Hilario, Rayver Cruz, Zanjoe Marudo, and Xian Lim purposely stayed a little longer to chat with their young fans.

Gerald admitted he was happy with the outcome of the high-energy game which his team won 69-59. “Nag-enjoy naman yung mga bata so yun naman yung importante dun. Para sa mga bata talaga ito. Para ito sa school nila. Kumbaga sinosoli ko na lang yung lahat ng blessings sa akin. Lalo kaming nag-enjoy kasi alam namin masaya sila at natuwa sila sa panunuod ng game, he said.

The Fil-Am heartthrob was also especially proud of his team, who lost to Team ASAP Rocks in their first match-up during the Star Magic Games. “Lahat sila ang galing-galing. Medyo malas ako kaya sila nagdala eh. Kumbaga nag-step up lahat kaya okay. Medyo malas kami nung una pero at least nag-break out so happy ako at masaya naman lahat. Sobra kaming nagpapasalamat kasi naglaro yung ASAP. Nag all out din sila,” he explained.

Gerald says he originally did not know what the outcome of the game would be because their busy schedules did not allow for them to do any practice beforehand. “Wala talaga kasi galing ako abroad tapos busy din yung ibang players. Ngayon lang kami nagkita-kita pero masaya naman,” he said.

The Budoy star just came back from a US tour with other Kapamilya hunks like Enchong Dee and Rayver Cruz. Gerald said he really enjoys getting the chance to entertain their fans abroad. “Grabe, sobrang warm lahat ng mga tao sa cities na pinuntahan namin. Sobra kaming nagpapasalamat sa pagtanggap sa amin doon,” he told Push.com.ph.

Although there is no follow-up event scheduled yet, Gerald said he definitely wants to organize similar events for special children in the future. “Wala pa pero tingnan natin. Gusto ko siyempre,” he admitted.
