Zanjoe Marudo on Bea Alonzo: “Yes, kami na”

But during Bea’s birthday press conference last October 13, she admitted that she’s already in a committed relationship with Zanjoe since March of this year. When asked why she chose just now to reveal this, Bea says she feels happy to be with the actor. “Masaya ako sa aming dalawa. I’m very happy, not because I can share it with everyone already, happy na I’m with somebody already, ‘di niya ako iiwan sa kahit anong pagkakataon, ‘di niya ako ilalaglag, andyan siya para sumuporta sa kin, maging nasa tabi ko lang every single time.” The actress also added that there was no formal ‘ligawan’ and they just both felt right being together. “Wala naman ligawan. ‘Di na lang namin namalayan na nag-lead na lang pala doon ng ‘di namin alam.” Bea also shared their pet names for one another are ‘Mahal ko’ and ‘My love.’

The couple first got to know each other in the ‘Barko’ episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya in 2007 but they became close friends when they attended a special dinner their Star Magic handler Monch Novales had for her artists, May of last year. Bea was Zanjoe’s date during the 2010 Star Magic Ball but it was Gerald Anderson whom she left the event with. This put all romantic speculations about Bea and Zanjoe to a halt. However, they started seeing each other again before the year ended.  Last July, when the pair showed up at Diether Ocampo’s golf tournament and went on a vacation to Paris together, many speculated that Bea and Zanjoe are in a serious relationship already.

At the international airport before they left for Bea’s birthday trip to South Korea last October 17, The Buzz had the chance to talk to the two, who were facing the cameras for the first time as an official couple. “Una naman akong umamin, yes, kami na,” Zanjoe said with a smile, pretending as if he didn’t know Bea’s admission during her press con. He added that he really didn’t know when to ask the actress to be his girlfriend. “Humahanap kasi ako ng tiyempo eh. Siyempre yung ganung bagay, ang hirap kasi, baka ma-bigla, ma-pressure, bigla mo hingin yung kamay. Ako yung nabigla,” he related, for Bea was the one who blurted out that she’s ready to be his girl during a dinner date.

Zanjoe admitted that there really was no formal courtship but he said courting Bea didn’t stop when she became his girlfriend. “ ‘Di ko lang siya hinarana (laughs). Ang ligawan naman ‘di naman natatapos yan, kahit pa siguro may pamilya na kayo. Ang ligawan ‘di naman sa umpisa lang.” The actress, who was listening to his answer intently couldn’t help but quip, “Panindigan mo yan!

Both revealed they had reservations too about turning their friendship into something more but they know the risk they are taking will all be worth it. “Mahirap masira yung nabuong friendship, in case it’s not going to work. Kami naman, ‘di namin kaya mawala, kahit yung friendship man lang,” Bea said. Zanjoe, on the other hand, related that he didn’t think they would go this far. “Sa umpisa, ‘di naman ako sigurado talaga nag-aalangan din ako, parang ‘di naman biro yung niligawan ko siya, ‘di ko na-imagine na pwede mangyari, na magugustuhan ako ni Tisay [Bea].”

As to why they finally confessed the real status of their relationship, the couple said they wanted to share their happiness with everyone. “Natatakot ako, honestly. ‘Di naman ako sanay  na tinatanong niyo ko ng mga ganitong mga questions, alam niyo naman ‘yun. Natatakot ako na binigyan ko na ng license [‘yung public] to ask these questions p
