Audiences first saw her as a shy yet mysterious high school student in the teen-oriented afternoon show Let’s Go. From there, Bangs Garcia went on to do more serious roles in teleseryes like Kambal sa Uma and Katorse. This year, she finally got her first major role in Magkano Ang Iyong Dangal? wherein she got to work with Director Chito Roño, who was impressed by her acting and decided to include her in his next project. “I’m currently shooting a movie for Star Cinema with Vhong Navarro and Angelica Panganiban called Bulong. I’m very excited kasi first time ko makatrabaho si Direk Chito in a movie and he was the one who recommended me for it so it’s an honor. It means I’ve done something good in Magkano ang Dangal so I’m really proud to say that,” she says.
A Davao-raised gal, Bangs says showbiz has not lessened her conservative side. “I don’t want to be stereotyped as just projecting a sexy image kasi I have youth followers, too. So I want to maintain a wholesome image pa rin. Yung tipong kahit anong pino-project ko na sexy image, I’d still have the trust of the people around me, especially the men so that they would still respect me. Tsaka especially yung mga mothers, ayoko naman na isipin nila na I’m a bad icon sa mga anak nila so importante sa akin yun. I’ve got my own principles. So gusto ko pa rin maging icon ng kabataan though I project a sexy image,” she explains. The pretty 23-year old also admitted that she’s learned a lot from her four years in showbiz. “2005 was my first exposure in ABS-CBN and the things that I’ve learned talaga is that being in the showbiz industry is accepting and adjusting. Kasi no matter how much you don’t like the things going on around you, no matter how much you don’t like how the people are treating you, you can’t do anything about it. You just have to accept and adjust and be more kind to them. Kasi sometimes it’s better to be kind than to be right. So be kind and hopefully mari-realize nila and mako-konsensya rin sila sa kanilang ginagawa about not treating you right,” she says.
On her days off, Bangs prefers to just practice singing or relax by watching DVDs at home. “Kasi I really do love singing too. Mahilig ako sa singing and dancing so ganun ginagawa ko sa bahay or if not I’m watching DVDs, mga series like How I Met Your Mother, House or Everybody loves Raymond. Yung mga comedy ang gusto ko to lighten up my day kasi being in showbiz, hindi mo maiwasan to have stressful days eh because of the criticisms and chismis,” she admits. Although still very much single, Bangs shares that she has now become more open to dating. “My love life is zero at the moment. (laughs) Pero I’m entertaining na. I’m open to it. Kasi tapos na yung show ko, yung Magkano ang Dangal and I guess nung time na yun, I was really feeling like I wanted to unwind but at that time I was telling people that I don’t want to entertain anyone. Right now, medyo okay yung status ko ngayon,” she says.
