Although she wants to experience acting on stage again, Jamie says she is happy to concentrate on singing worship songs.
Jamie Rivera and other talented singers came together to sing songs of praise in Sa ‘Yo Lamang, the newest inspirational album from Star Records which will also be the official sountrack of the upcoming Lorna Tolentino top-billed movie of the same title. At the press launch for the album, Jamie, who interpreted the well-loved inspirational ballad “Sa ‘Yo Lamang” and also served as the producer of the album, shared that she and the other artists will soon visit various churches in the country to spread the good news of the Lord through music. “Kasama kong kumanta dito sina Erik Santos, Bugoy Drilon, Chin Chin Gutierrez, Fatima Soriano, Juris, Aiza Seguerra, at ‘yung mga magagaling na church choirs. We will be having church tours. Depende sa mga simbahang gustong imbitahan na kumanta kami, kung gusto nila mismo sa misa kami kumanta o sa isang mini-concert.”
Earning the title as the ‘Inspirational Diva’ after recording numerous songs of worship, Jamie said she didn’t hesistate when Star Records approached her and asked if she’s willing to serve as the producer of the Sa ‘Yo Lamang album. “I’ve been singing inspirational songs pero laging ako na lang nang ako ‘yung kumakanta. Iba pa rin kapag nakaka-work mo ‘yung ibang artists. It’s a humbling experience kapag ikaw ‘yung nagpo-produce sa kanila, tinuturuan mo. Nararanasan mo ‘yung kadalasang sentiments ng mga production people. Mas minamahal mo tuloy ‘yung album kasi alam mo ‘yung hirap ng paggawa ng album. Kaya nga lagi naming sinasabi na ‘wag kayong bibili ng pirated CDs kasi hindi birong gumawa ng album. Pinaghirapan namin ito. Kawawa naman ‘yung mga taong naghirap gumawa ng album.”
The album also features covers of popular inspirational songs like “Pananagutan,” “Anima Christi,” and “Eagle’s Wings.” Jamie explained that they really chose songs which many devoted parishioners are already familiar with. “Pinili namin ‘yung mga popular nang kinakanta sa mga simbahan para naman maka-relate ang marami. Parishioner din kasi ako, and kapag nararamdaman ko ‘yung kanta I feel closer to the Lord. With these songs mas makakatulong tayo sa mga tao to worship the Lord.”
Jamie has been in the music scene for over 20 years now, but in the early years of her career she also sang pop ballads which include “I’ve Fallen For You,” “Hey It’s Me,” and “Awit Para Sa ‘Yo.” While she still loves to do these kind of mainstream music, Jamie said her priority at the moment is making songs in honor of God. “Kumakanta pa rin naman ako ng mga ballads. Actually sa mga live performances ko I still sing my pop songs. But I think ang priority ko muna is to do inspirational music kasi may mga iba pa pang projects na nakalatag. Pero I also would want to record pop songs soon.”
Aside from music, Jamie also tried out acting, playing the lead role in the musical Miss Saigon, and appearing in a few TV dramas and movies. While her fellow Miss Saigon star Lea Salonga had expressed her willingness to do movies again, Jamie also said she is open into going back to acting, but that is not her priority for now. “Well aside from music I’m open into trying other fields, like acting nga. Kung may magandang offer, why not? Pero ngayon kasi mas gusto kong kumanta at mag-offer ng mga songs for the Lord. Feeling ko ‘yun na talaga ang path ko.”
