Nina Dolino says being part of Imortal is a dream come true

After her showbiz debut as one of the resident “tadjocks” in Wazzup Wazzup back in 2006, Nina Dolino considers getting a role in the primetime hit Imortal as her biggest acting break to date. “Kung meron man akong dream project, eto na yun for me. I never thought I’d be a kontrabida but so far I’m enjoying it. Sobrang saya ako kasi parang not all are given the opportunity to do this ‘di ba? Tapos na-bless ako so I’m super thankful. Etong Imortal ang nagbigay ng opportunity na puwede nga akong umarte ng ganito. Masarap gawin, so ang pini-pray ko lang is sana magkaroon ng kasunod,” she said.

The pretty actress said she auditioned for the role of Clarisse Zaragosa, a powerful woman who is heiress apparent in the Taong Lobo world. “The feedback has been super nice. Nakakataba ng puso, especially for me na ganun yung role na nabigay sa akin tapos ang ganda ng story at ang ganda ng cast. May pressure din kasi sa akin kung ‘di ako mag-deliver, patay ‘di ba? Mahuhuli ako. But in fairness the feedback has been really good not only in the industry but also with the audience. Sana tumagal ito, puwede bang three years itong Imortal kasi ang dami kong natututunan,” she said happily.

After playing mostly good girl roles in the past, Nina said she actually looked forward to portraying a more complex character. I don’t mind being the kontrabida. Masaya na ako magka-work and to learn. Kasi sana, I hope to be a character actress, yung mga kagaya ni Cherie Gil, pangarap ko yan,” she shared.

One of the most challenging parts of the role for Nina is how completely opposite she is in real life compared to Clarisse. “Maganda talaga yung story. Imposibleng hindi ka ma-in love. Nung nabasa ko yung script, una naisip ko, ‘Wow ang ganda.’ Lalo na yung role ko, talagang challenge siya so matindi rin yung preparasyon. Kasi yung roles ko dati have always been bubbly and friend lang tapos dito, mataray na kontrabida siya so I prepared by giving myself time to read the script and pinag-aralan ko talaga kung paano i-a-approach kasi hindi joke yung character. Hindi yung parang puwede ka isalang ng basta-basta. May pag-aaral kung paano atakihin, kung ano ba si Clarisse, kung bakit ganun siya. I learned from my co-actors, na kailangan importante na alam mo yung background ng character mo para ma-portray mo na maayos yun,” she said.

Nina cites her scenes with Vivian Velez (who plays her mother Lucille Zaragosa) and Angel Locsin (Lia Ortega) as the most difficult to do. “Pinakamahirap lagi for me yung mga dramatic scenes naming mag-ina, kasi siyempre emotional yun tapos yung scenes namin ni Angel din. Kasi being a kontrabida takes so much energy and focus physically and mentally nakakapagod yung mga scenes namin ni Angel kasi ako yung laging mataray so ganyan. Yung sa amin naman with my mom, ni Tita Vivian, emotional naman yun kasi nga yung character namin hindi close so favorite ko rin yung mga yun kasi nahahasa at nalalaman mo yung range mo and at the same time, parang ‘wag na lang sana (laughs) kasi nakaka-pressure pero so far mukha namang okay. Although lagi kong iniisip I could’ve done better, ganyan,” she said.
