Jose Javier Reyes shares that he agreed to do the film even on short notice because of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson.
Aside from the real-life drama surrounding the team-up of Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson, one of the interesting points about their movie Till My Heartaches End is the story behind its conception. Director Jose Javier Reyes (or simply Direk Joey) related that he had other work commitments when Star Cinema tapped him not only to direct the film but to create a script from scratch. So sabi ko, ‘Sige magkita tayo.’”
As soon as he learned that the Kimerald project has no script yet, Direk Joey took matters into his own hands and decided to meet up with Star Cinema’s creative team that same day. At isang kwento na gusto kong gawin ay mala-500 Days of Summer dahil I love that movie. Hindi yung story pero yung structure of 500 Days of Summer ang makikita niyo sa Till My Heartaches End.” With that in mind, the acclaimed director thought of getting lots of support cast who portray as the young couple’s friends in the story. “Ang kwento ng pag-iibigan ni Agnes at Paolo (Kim and Gerald) ay nilalahad based from the point of view nung mga kaibigan nila. Yung ang function nila (Martin del Rosario, Cacai Bautista, Eda Nolan, Manuel Chua),” he explained.
From that Wednesday meeting, Direk Joey wrote the story of Till My Heartaches End over the weekend and then he submitted the first draft come Monday morning (September 20). And by Saturday that week (September 25) nag-first day of shooting kami. And now with just a few more days, tapos na ang pelikula. Ang tawag diyan superpowers,” he exclaimed with a laugh. When told that he’s the only director who could pull a stunt like that on short notice, he modestly replied, “I just want to say I’m inspired. The last time I did this was Batang PX, na natapos ko ang script in three days.
Direk Joey also stressed that he made sure that Kim and Gerald would be portraying characters with depth and not just make the moviegoers feel kilig like in the usual love stories. It’s about time we give Kim and Gerald the roles they deserve because naka-graduate na sila dun sa role nila bilang young stars, now they will be young actors. Ikalawa, it’s a movie na may laman kaysa kilig. At higit sa lahat it shows the journey of two people in love from the way it started to where it is going.
