Eric Quizon admits that fatherhood is the only thing missing for him at this time.
Eric Quizon, 42, said that the possibility of him becoming a dad could be at hand. “Malapit na siguro,” he said smiling, during the press conference of his directorial movie, the Metro Manila Film entry Nobody, Nobody But Juan, which is top-billed by his dad, Dolphy. “Of course masarap maging tatay. Siguro masasabi ko na ‘yun na lang ang kulang sa akin, ‘yung maging tatay.” The actor-director explained that although he is searching for the right woman, he also believes that this will happen at the right time.
The press also inquired if there is a possibility that he would fall for someone like Pokwang, who is also part of the said MMFF film. “Oo naman, bakit naman hindi,” he replied. “And I don’t think she’s ugly, I think she’s a beautiful person. Pokwang is a lovely human being. Ibang klase.”
After six years, Nobody, Nobody But Juan is Eric’s comeback directorial film project. “I haven’t done something in awhile,” he revealed. “The last time I directed a movie was 2003 pa and the rest are all TV work, so it’s nice to be back doing movies again. I made sure that I would come up with something good and I’d like to think that I have a very good finished product.”
He also shared that it was actually fun directing his dad and his dad’s contemporaries Eddie Garcia and Gloria Romero who also star in the movie. “Paano ka maiilang kung magaling ang katrabaho mo? Kumbaga ako pa nga ang natutuwa kasi sometimes I feel I’m not at par kasi minsan ako ‘pag nagbigay ako ng instruction ‘pag may hinahanap ako, pero minsan ‘pag sila ang bumibitaw, kunwari ‘pag si Tito Eddie, meron pa pa lang ibubuga. Meron pa pa lang igaganda ‘yung eksena at nangyayari ‘yon kapag sila ang katrabaho mo,” he said.
Although he started out as an actor before becoming a director, Eric explained that he gets a different satisfaction from each. “Ang pagiging artista kumbaga hinahanap-hanap ko ‘yan. Kaya lang kasi when you’re an actor, it’s somehow a limited artistic expression. Ang goal mo lang ‘yung ginagampanan mong role at kung paano mo bibigyan ng buhay ‘yung character na ‘yon."
“Pero kung director ka, ang lahat bibigyan mo ng buhay, ang bawat role bibigyan mo ng saysay, ang bawat storya, ang bawat character ang bawat galaw ang bawat anggulo. So ang lahat n’yan pinakikialaman mo. Ang gusto ko sa pagdidirek it’s a creative process na nangyayari na nag-iisip ka na. Constant ‘yon kapag nagdidirek ka. It’s not just natsa-challenge ka sa ginagawa mo, eh. It’s more of like naho-hone ‘yung craft mo na nabubuhayan ang isip mo. Ang maganda talaga nag-iisip ka. You’re trying to be creative. You come up with a new approach with what you do.”
