King of Comedy Dolphy talks about the entries to this year's Metro Manila Film Fest.
Dolphy thinks Vic Sotto is the deserving heir to his title as the next King of Comedy. The veteran actor, considered as one of the pillars of Philippine cinema, also made note of some of today’s talented comedians like Michael V, Willie Revillame, Vhong Navarro, and Bayani Agbayani.
He said that all that a talented comedian needs to achieve fame is the right break and luck. In his 65 years in the business, Dolphy said that characteristics that contributed to his staying power include professionalism, passion to one’s work, and the hunger to keep learning the craft.
While his movie Nobody Nobody But Juan is a Metro Manila Film Festival entry, Dolphy explained that this film festival should first and foremost, aim to bring enjoyment to Filipino families and not just be a box-office competition. “Hindi naman magkakalaban, basta friendly competition lang ito. Gusto ko kumita lahat, eh,” he said. “Of course liyamado ang Panday (starring Bong Revilla). Talagang nakita ko ‘yung trailer nila.”
He also noticed that this year’s MMFF has an impressive list of entries. “Na-impress ako. Talagang maganda ang festival ngayon. Kasi sa sobrang naging malungkot ang buhay ng mga tao nung nakaraang buwan, dapat sumaya naman sila.”
When the film’s director, Eric Quizon, was asked about his expectations for the movie, he said, “Sana kumita lang. I think it’s a well-balanced festival; may fantasy, horror, drama, comedy. Mukhang lahat naman ng pelikula magaganda. Parang maganda ‘yung selection ngayon so sana lahat ng pelikula tangkilikin ang pelikulang Pilipino.”
