Director Wenn Deramas admits 'Ang Tanging Pamilya' almost did not push through

Direk Wenn Deramas said that Ang Tanging Pamilya is his most challenging movie experience yet. The production suffered several setbacks due to unexpected incidents. Last September, 29 members of the production crew were among the passengers of Superferry 9 that capsized off the coast of Zamboanga Del Norte. The loss of equipment and the death of one crewmember affected the morale of the production team. A couple of weeks after, Typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng delayed the shooting schedule. Then Direk Wenn suffered the death of his mother last October.

At the press conference for Ang Tanging Pamilya, the director shared with ABS-CBN.com that he almost reached the breaking point.

Direk Wenn finished the shoot in time for Ang Tanging Pamilya to be released on November 11. Having worked almost everyday, he revealed he has yet to fully mourn over the passing of his mother. Up to now wala pa akong madramang moment tulad ng mga ginagawa nina Vilma (Santos), Sharon (Cuneta), and Maricel (Soriano).”

Looking back, the director had no regrets pushing through with the project, otherwise he would have passed up the chance of working with Joseph Estrada. Direk Wenn talked about his unforgettable experience directing the former president of the country.

In Ang Tanging Pamilya, audiences will see Erap, known for being an action hero in Philippine cinema, show his flair for comedy.

Another challenge for Direk Wenn was to make an actress out of Manny Pacquiao’s mother, Aling Dionisia Pacquiao. Direk Wenn said he had a great time directing 60-year-old Pac-mom.
