With his first Metro Manila Film Fest entry, Ivan Dorschner admitted he enjoyed working with a lot of veteran actors in Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14
. “Yung mga artistang talagang may respeto sa
job nila, sina
Janice De Belen, Herbert Bautista, Dennis Padilla, Ms. Arlene Muhlach, some of the nicest in the whole industry. Wala silang malisya sa katawan, wala silang masama. Talagang sa
art form lang ang hinahabol nila
. So it’s very, very inspiring kasi alam ko na dapat talagang ganyan, kasi dahil sa tulad ng mga ginagawa nila kaya may
entertainment value. So talagang
art form ang hinahabol nila
so you learn from them kasi pag-
take na, todo na ang binibigay nila
,” he told Push.com.ph
Ivan said that Shake, Rattle, and Roll 14 will be his first horror movie but even though he is not a big horror fan, he did not have a hard time shooting the movie. “Ang totoo kasi ako natatakot sa mga horror films. Minsan di ko na kaya. Pero huwag mo sabihin sa mga girls ha! (laughs). It was not hard acting in a horror actually kasi it’s not really horror. You don’t really feel it. You kind of feel it but mas malakas kapag nasa kabilang side ka ng camera. Kasi if you’re watching it and there’s music, hindi mo alam kung naong mangyayari. Pero kasi if you read the script you know what’s going to happen so kahit papaano you try to envision that a scary thing is going to happen but it’s not really, really scary. It’s just reaction. It’s kind of fun kasi na-fi-eel mo kung paano ma-express yung fear. Natuto rin kami kasi actually kapag nanunuod ako ng film na nakakatakot sobra, all I think in my mind is actors lang sila so parang I just think na obviously what they’re looking at is isang camera at isang mike, isang director, isang script manager, isang lighting technician. Yun yung parang nakikita nila. Para mawala yung fear ko sa movie mismo,” he said.
The Fil-American cutie said he hopes that his fans will enjoy watching his episode in the movie as much as he enjoyed making it. “Sa episode ng Pamana, yung role ko na si Emerson ay isang lalake na dumadaan sa tamang proseso ng panliligaw nung araw pa, nung 1950s nung uso pa yung ganun. Actually it’s very, very interesting kasi lahat ng set at gamit namin retro na. So it’s nice to see kung gaano katindi yung pagiging retro sa pag-de-design sa set so talagang parang you have no choice but to feel na you’re in old times,” he explained.
Ivan said that he and co-star Empress have gotten closer because of the movie. “Before kasi alam mo yung parang awkwardness na parang kilala kita, kilala mo ako pero hindi nag-ha-hi pa. Hindi pa tayo nagkaka-conversation pa. so ito, we played games, we got to know each other. It’s like we can comfortably say hi to each other. Parang kapag nagkasalubong kami sa hallway, talagang mag-ha-hi kami, kamustahan,” he said.
The 22-year-old actor said he was impressed with Empress’s acting skills especially during their dramatic scenes. “Medyo nahirapan ako kasi ang galing niya! Ang galing kasi hindi ko na-e-expect na pag start na ng scene hindi lang tumutulo yung tears, nag-fo-flow yung tears niya, grabe. It’s my first time to work with her sa show na may script pero nagkasama na kami sa Shoutout!, sa ASAP minsan so ito lang yung may kuwento na project namin and she’s a very nice person. She’s a very well-reserved person and then puwede rin siya maging makulit talaga, parang game siya sa mga larong bata. Yung laro na pang-bata,” he shared.
When it comes to his personal life, Ivan said he has no updates for his fans. “Actually ang gusto ko, sila ang mag-update sa akin kasi hindi ko rin alam ang mangyayari sa lovelife ko (laughs). Kasi nag-fo-focus ako sa trabaho. Siyempre mahirap kapag nag-iisa ka lang and then trabaho lang ang focus mo,” he admitted.
