Speculations about the rumored romance between John Lloyd Cruz and Ruffa Gutierrez continued to grow after the latter confirmed on The Buzz last June 7 that she and her kids moved out of her parents’ home following her disagreement with mom Annabelle Rama. With Annabelle hinting that her daughter’s young suitor was the reason behind it all, speculations arose as to whether or not she was referring to Lloydy who had recently split with long-time girlfriend Liz Uy.
His fellow Kanto Boy and close friend Billy Crawford was quick to dismiss such rumors, saying that John Lloyd is not the type who fools around and covers up his mistakes just to preserve his image. When asked if he is affected every time people accuse John Lloyd of leaving Liz for another woman, he simply replied, “Ay naku, we all have our growth periods. We all have to learn from our mistakes. And whatever it is, that’s their relationship. And you know, as a man's perspective, kung may mali kang ginawa, of course you should approach the situation well and you have to apologize whatever wrong you’ve done. There's no need to be nagtatago ka or anything. And kilala ko si Lloydy. Never niya gagawin yun,” he stressed.
Billy further shared that it is not his place to speak for John Lloyd, Liz, or Ruffa. “Naku, I will never ever speak in behalf of John Lloyd or give any reaction of mine. John Lloyd is a good friend of mine and that is none of my business. Ano nila yun, storya nila yun. Just to be a part of showbiz doesn’t mean na I can say na it’s wrong or right.” But did John Lloyd confide in him about the issue? “Hindi ko natanong sa kanya kasi kami [ng Kanto Boys], pagdating sa pagkakaibigan, kung kailangan kami for help nandyan kami. Pero as of now nagkita kami ni Lloydy, naglaro kami ng basketball last week, we’re fine,” he related.
The four heartthrobs—Lloydy, Billy, Vhong Navarro, and Luis Manzano—became close friends ever since their group was created on ASAP. “Para kaming siraulo. Hindi kami mapaghiwalay eh kasi kaming magkakaibigan, we call each other, we bond everyday. Kumpare ko si Vhong, si John Lloyd is a good friend of mine, si Luis I’ve known since [the time I worked with his mom] Tita Vilma (Santos), Lucky pa siya nun and makapal ang salamin. Yung mga iba kasi sineseryo nila masyado yung pagiging all-male group nila, kami kahit gaguhin namin yung sarili namin parang wala lang... So it’s all about fun,” he beamed.
As a parting shot, Billy reiterated that for a person to be truly happy he should just follow his heart. This philosophy has helped him reach his dream of becoming an internationally recognized artist. “Professionalism is really, really important. After that, it has to do with passion. You really have to love what you do. Maraming tao diyan kasi they kind of abuse the situation being in the industry. Sometimes it takes overnight to be a star, sometimes it takes years and years to even get noticed, and sometimes you're never noticed. [So it’s important] just to keep your head right, yung positive yung mind and heart mo. Kung nandun ang puso mo, susunod lahat yun. So you have to be devoted to what you do in any aspect of your life.”
And it seems the same is true with love as Billy reiterated his take on John Lloyd and Ruffa’s much-speculated friendship. “As I said, I don’t want to make comments on Ruffa or John Lloyd and Liz because it’s none of my business talaga. I love all of them. Kasama ko si Ruffa since That's Entertainment tapos yun nga si Lloydy kasama ko ngayon sa Kanto Boys so I have nothing against any of them. Kung boto ba ak
