After several years of dabbling in acting, singer-turned-actor Sam Concepcion proved that he has the makings to be the next leading man in the movie Way Back Home. Surprisingly, he has a striking screen presence which could catapult him to stardom just like John Lloyd Cruz or Gerald Anderson. “Wow, para sabihin ni’yo yun thank you talaga. Pero start pa lang ‘yan. Marami pa akong kailangan patunayan. There are so many things I need to learn as an actor, as an artist, and as a person. Kasi habang tumatanda ka, the more you experience, the more you know, the better actor you are,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph.
Although he’s paired with Julia Montes, Sam was also able to establish good rapport with Kathryn Bernardo in some parts of the film. But when asked to choose between his two leading ladies, the 18-year-old safely answered that he would be lucky to work with either of them again in the future. “Mahirap naman pumili kasi they’re both talented and very sweet. You saw naman in the movie, iba sila mag-capture ng audience. Just to be able to work alongside the two of them sobrang thankful talaga ako.”
Sam even recalled the first time he worked with Kathryn in Super Inggo five years ago. Looking back, he never expected that they’d become a love team since they’re not from the same batch of Star Magic artists. “Si Kathryn super sweet. Una ko siyang nakatrabaho sa Super Inggo. Ang liit-liit pa niya nun. Si Makisig (Morales) pa ang love team niya nun, tapos ako naman si Empress. Ngayon dalaga na siya, iba na, mature na kapag nakausap mo. Si Julia ganon din. At alam ko kahit pagkatapos ng movie, we’ll be hanging out with each other.”
Aside from Way Back Home, Sam can also be seen in the weekly teen series, Good Vibes. When told that most of his female co-stars are attracted to him, the young actor merely took it in stride, saying that his showbiz career is his top priority at the moment. “Minsan hindi mo rin talaga ma-process or ma-gets kasi ayaw mo namang isipin yung ganong bagay. Pero kung totoo man yun, salamat, very flattering naman yun. Right now, I’m just thankful for all the blessings I’ve been receiving this year. Way Back Home is the biggest project I did so far. Salamat sa Star Cinema and to all the people who believe in my potential. I feel so lucky to be where I am now. Sana tuloy-tuloy na ito.”
