VIRAL: Grade 12 student from Leyte wins 20 million pesos in international competition
Hillary bested 11,000 entries from 178 countries in the science competition.
At 18 years old, Hillary Diane Andales has already brought pride to the country after winning at the Breakthrough Junior Challenge, a science competition abroad.
According to the report of ABS-CBN News, Hillary created a science video as her entry to the competition and bested 11,000 entries from 178 countries. She received $400,000 or 20 million pesos after being declared as the champion.
The $100,000 will be used to purchase equipment for their school laboratory, while $50,000 will be handed to her teacher. The remaining $250,000 will be allotted for her college scholarship.
“We think na ‘yung physics is all about equations. No, physics is about everything and it matters to everyone," she said in an interview with ABS-CBN News.
She added, "I want to tell people that science is a worthwhile thing to give funds to.”
